By creating a website for people who use wheelchairs, the Interactive Platforms Association is helping them get better online.
But that doesn’t mean a company should just take the time to create one for people.
There are many steps to a good website that help a person with disabilities, said Scott Purdie, the chief executive officer of Interactive Platform Systems Association.
That includes making sure the site is responsive, that the navigation is clear, and that it’s easy to navigate.
It’s also important to keep the site up to date, so that people who need a new device can find what they’re looking for.
Purdie said companies need to start thinking about how to include accessibility as a primary feature, not just a bonus.
The most important aspect of a good interactive website is making sure that people with wheelchairs are able to navigate the site, he said.
And Purdies goal with Interactive Platform Solutions is to help people who are visually impaired make it easier for them to access their favorite websites and apps.
“When you’re creating a site for someone who needs a new wheelchair, you have to take the responsibility of making sure it’s accessible for them,” Purdia said.
